"The Captain? […] The Captain, is it? He-heeee! There's no explanation for the likes of him. He's not of this world! […] Sometimes souls get mixed up. Sometimes the dead bounce! Sometimes old men awaken behind the eyes of babes! Sometimes wolves…"
Sarl, about his Captain Kosoter

Lord Kosoter was Captain of the Skin Eaters and veteran of the First Holy War.[1]

He was described as having a square beard, and narrow eyes of brown color almost black. His cold and 'unearthly' gaze reflected death, a veteran of massacres and privations.[2]

He spoked Sheyic with a certain tone of internal anger..[2]

In The Judging Eye[]

Kosoter’s group, the Skin Eaters, are hired by Drusas Achamian to raid the legendary Coffers of the ruined Library of Sauglish.

In The White-Luck Warrior[]

Kosoter, like the rest of the Skin Eaters, becomes addicted to the qirri dispensed by Nil’giccas.

Kosoter was betrayed by Galian and Xonghis in the ruins of Sauglish while awaiting the return of the Wizard Achamian and Cleric. Galian began to rebuke with questions to Captain Kosoter, like how many riches would correspond to them or what would they do with the Nonman and the Qirri, the Captain Kosoter with a somber and silent deliberation reflected in his eyes decides to kill Galian, but Galian also see it and recognizes that his Captain has decided to kill him. Galian reveals to the Captain that all the men supported the treason, he had always thought of killing the Captain every time he saw him, telling him all this as he approached Lord Kosoter with obscene contempt. Then an arrow hit the Captain in the mouth skewering the lower half of his face, the arrow was shot by Xonghis, the Captain only manages to laugh with sardonic glee through blood and teeth, a second arrow is stuck in his neck making him turn on his waist to finally collapse on the humus of the ground, there he convulses with bestial violence as if his spirit was trying to escape from his body, scratching the ground, spitting saliva, blood and with his eyes glistening with effort and fury. Galian himself who was watching the scene was frightened and drew his sword, the Captain launched a last roar to the sky and calming down he let his head fall to the ground and remained motionless, the silence took over the place. And Mimara watched breathlessly in amazement, realizing that the Captain, Lord Kosoter, was mortal after all.[3]

After killing the Captain the remaining Skin Eaters begin to argue, and order the mad Sarl to keep an eye on Mimara, Sarl approaches to the corpse of Captain Kosoter and pokes his head with a stick, Sarl turns to Mimara and tells her: "He's not dead, […] Not the Captain, no… […] He's too hard for Hell."[3]

Lord Kosoter was beheaded by Sergeant Sarl, who embraced his head with apprehension, rocking it like a doll, plunging into madness. After the Wizard and mimara returned from the ruins of Sauglish they watched Sarl one last time in the distance, he had braided the hairs from the head of the captain into his own beard, now the severed head bobbed over the groin of the sergeant, the head had a strange grimace even despite the arrow, as if smiling. And again Mimara remembered what Sarl had told her earlier: "Sometimes the dead bounce! Sometimes old men awaken behind the eyes of babes! Sometimes wolves…"[3]

What Came Before[]

Kosoter participated in the Holy War. After the Battle of Em’famir, Aspect-Emperor Anasûrimbor Kellhus gave him the name “Ironsoul.”[2]

After the Holy Bounty on Sranc pelts was announced, he founded the Skin Eaters.
